She Still Sings: Response to Invictus

Out of the night that covers me

Blanketing form and light

I curse whatever gods may be

That took away my sight

Stealing salmon sunsets

And the tender buds on trees

The beauty of my baby's face

The sparkling of the seas

You took a joyous bird in flight

And tore apart her wing

And put her in a darkened cage

To never see the Spring

But in that darkened cage she sees

The cobalt sea and skies

Her heart it sings an inward song

As in her dreams she flies

You took away her freedom

And put steel bars o'er her will

But her heart it sings an inward song

That none can ever kill
